Explore reptile setupsUV percentage does not necessary equal the exposure at the animal. Check the lamp maker’s guidance for fitting, reflection and distance, allowing for any mesh between lamp and basking area.
Arrange the habitat so the animal can move away from direct light and UVB. Ordinary glass blocks useful UVB transmission.
Match tube type, length, wattage and fitting. T5 and T8 tubes are not interchangeable. Use the manufacturer’s UV lamp replacement interval; a lamp that still looks bright may no longer provide the intended UV output.
A product sold as a night light is not automatically suitable overnight. Choose the lighting schedule for the species. If overnight warmth is needed, assess a suitable light-free heat source and compatible control.
Do not assume it does. Standard visible-light LEDs and plant lights serve a different role. Only treat a product as a UVB source when the maker explicitly specifies UVB output and gives suitable installation guidance.
Choose using the species’ target exposure, lamp system, installation height and any intervening mesh. There is no single percentage that suits all enclosures. Use the exact lamp’s distance chart and seek setup advice if unsure.
No. Heat lamps need the control specified by their manufacturer, but some UV or combination lamps must not be dimmed. Check the exact lamp and controller instructions before connecting them.
Follow the manufacturer’s service interval for that exact lamp, and use an appropriate UV Index meter where available to check exposure. Visible brightness alone cannot confirm that UVB output remains suitable.
